UseAlibi is a desktop application for Windows and macOS that changes the GPS location your iPhone reports to the apps running on it. You install it on your computer, connect your iPhone with a USB cable, pick a place on a map, and every app on the phone starts reporting that place instead of where you physically are.

How it works

Apple ships a developer service inside iOS called LocationSimulation. It exists so that people building apps can test how those apps behave in other places without flying there. UseAlibi speaks to that service over the cable, which is why nothing has to be installed on the phone and why the phone does not need to be jailbroken. It is the same mechanism Xcode uses, wrapped in an interface that does not require being a developer to operate.

Because the change happens at the system level rather than inside one app, every app sees it at once. There is no per-app configuration and no list of supported apps to maintain.

Where your location goes

Nowhere. The coordinates travel from the app on your computer, down the USB cable, to the phone in your hand. There is no server in between, and we do not store the places you set. This is the central design decision of the product: a tool whose job is to keep your real location private would be a strange thing to build on top of a service that collects the fake one.

Who it is for

People testing location-dependent software on a real device without a shelf of test phones. People who would rather their social apps not broadcast exactly where they live. People who want a map pin somewhere other than their sofa. Developers, testers, travellers, and the privacy-minded.

What it will not do

It is iPhone-only, and it needs a computer — there is no version that runs on the phone by itself. It does not work on Android.

It is also not built for defeating systems where misrepresenting your location is fraud: banks, exam proctoring, court-ordered monitoring, or anything similar. We do not support that use and we will not help with it. Some apps also restrict simulated locations in their own terms of service, and how you use the app inside those services is your responsibility, not ours.

Compatibility

Windows 10 and 11, and macOS 12 or later. The iPhone must be running iOS 17 through iOS 26. A USB cable is required for the first connection; after the phone has been paired once, Wi-Fi works too.
